Foundations is a one-credit course and is the prerequisite for all pathways included in the Education & Training cluster.
The course is designed for students who are interested in pursuing careers in human services with a specific interest in working with children.
Students will be introduced to knowledge and skills necessary for career fields such as education, counseling, and coaching.
Course content includes organizational structure of education, careers, the role of educators, characteristics of effective educators, communication skills, the teaching & learning process, learning styles, human growth and development, learning activities, and education initiatives.
Observation experiences through school visits are a required component of this course. Students will also have the opportunity to join “Future Teachers of Alabama”, a leadership organization that is an extension of the course and coursework.
